FREEPORT – Circus Smirkus, the award-winning international youth circus based in Vermont, is back on the road with an all-new, action-packed acrobatic adventure following the adventures of Pinocchio, complete with juggling, tumbling, high wire, trapeze, live original music, clowns and more.
This year, The Merriconeag Waldorf School at 57 Desert Road is presenting four shows at 1 and 6 p.m. Aug. 9 and 10.
This marks the 19th annual summer production for the famed youth circus, which has performed a number of “story circuses” based on classic tales.
“This year, the special mood of Pinocchio will come from the live Italian music and the collaboration with Sandglass Theater,” said Smirkus founder Rob Mermin.
Every summer, the Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour travels for seven weeks throughout New England. Smirkus is the only American youth circus to put on a full-season tour under its own big top, a 24-meter, 750-seat, one-ring European circus tent.
Admission: $14 for children 12 and under; $16 for adults; free for children 2 and under. Tickets are available online at www.smirkus.org; at the gate one hour before show time; and at Freeport Cheese & Wine, Royal River Natural Foods, Island Treasure Toys and Northern Sky Toyz.
