NEW GLOUCESTER – Building a playhouse will be a centerpiece for the “Under Construction” program at this year’s Summerfest at the First Congregational-Christian Church of New Gloucester.

“Under Construction” is the Habitat for Humanity Vacation Bible School for children age 3 through grade six from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, Aug. 15 to 19. A special early bird attraction will be held each day 15 minutes before the start.

Summerfest is for any child in the church and community at the Congregational-Christian Church of New Gloucester, Gloucester Hill Road. Preregistration is encouraged. Crafts, music, drama, snacks and Bible study are also a part of the curriculum each day. Call 926-3260 for preregistration and more information.

Under Construction is a missions action children’s Vacation Bible School designed to share the love of God and encourage the growth of Christian service habits among children.

The program was developed in full partnership with Habitat for Humanity International.

The program is biblically based, uses a construction theme and involves the children in activities that teach the value of “building” Christian community and participating in outreach service missions.

Program elements include Bible-theme activities, worship, music, dramas, community stories, crafts and a special building project for the older children.

A unique feature is how it involves children directly in service and ministry through Habitat for Humanity International. While children do not participate in the construction of Habitat homes, they do discover the joy of serving by creating crafts that are given to Habitat partner families and volunteers.

An offering taken by the children during Summerfest will be dedicated to providing housing for people in need through Habitat for Humanity.
