PORTLAND – A Wilton man was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court to 37 months in prison for possession of child pornography.
Barry G. Hathaway Jr. also received three years of supervised release from Judge D. Brock Hornby.
On Nov. 20, 2002, armed with a search warrant, Knox County Sheriff’s Department deputies searched Hathaway’s home at 296 Old Union Road in Washington. They seized two computers and 62 compact discs. One of the computers contained approximately 40 banners of Web sites that appeared to feature child pornography.
The same computer contained approximately six images of apparent child pornography. One of the 62 compact discs contained approximately 595 images of apparent child pornography. Of those images, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children identified at least 16 as being of known prepubescent minors. After the search, Hathaway drove to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and told detectives that he had a problem, and that the pornography and paraphernalia found during the search were his.
Hornby recommended that Hathaway receive alcohol therapy and sex-offender therapy. He imposed conditions of supervised release, including that Hathaway not use drugs or alcohol, not use computers, not associate with persons under the age of 16 without prior approval of his supervision officer, and that he register as a sex offender.
