EUSTIS – Two people suffered minor injuries after the pilot of a small airplane overshot a private runway on Friday morning.
The Eustis Fire Department, NorthStar ambulance and state police responded to the scene around 10:50 a.m., according to acting state police Sgt. Christopher Carr.
Tony Carter, 45, of Dixfield, was attempting to land a Cessna 172 – a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing airplane – on a private landing strip next to Route 27 when he overshot the runway and went through the bushes, Carr said.
Neither Carter nor his passenger, James Adams, 59, of Las Vegas, were seriously injured. Both refused treatment at the scene.
“The plane was wrecked. It was a total loss,” Carr said.
The Federal Aviation Administration will be investigating the incident. It is unclear what caused the accident.
