SOUTH PARIS – George Deletetsky, 85, of Auburn, passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, at Maine Veterans Home.

He was born on Nov. 8, 1919, the son of Myer and Annie Deletetsky. He was educated in local schools, graduating from Edward Little in 1938.

He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned home and worked as a shipfitter at Bath Iron Works, and later at Union Power Co. as a draftsman.

He was also an Auburn Police officer for 14 years, retiring as a sergeant.

George was a member of the Congregation Beth Abraham Synagogue, having served on the board of directors and as treasurer.

He enjoyed all sports, including horse racing and playing cards. He also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Auburn; sons, Glenn of Ogunquit and Leon of Auburn; daughters, Audrey, Ruth and her husband, Norman Peters, all of Auburn, and Beverly and Judy of Lewiston; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Mickey of Auburn and Ralph of Massachusetts; sisters, Shirley of Massachusetts, and Beedie of Maryland; and a very special lady in his life, Libby Goldman, of Auburn.

He was predeceased by his father, Myer, mother, Annie, and his stepmother “Ma” Rachel Deletetsky; brothers, Hyman, lost in World War II, Nathan, Louie, Abraham, and Lawrence; and a sister, Fagle. Having six children in the war at the same time earned “Ma” a gold star.
