LEWISTON – Sally Larson, 97, of 102 Campus Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 7, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.

She was born in Glassport, Pa., May 1, 1908, the daughter of Alex and Mary Bjorn Larson, both of Finland. She attended schools in Amesbury, Mass., and Maine.

She retired in 1973 from the Knapp Shoe Co. payroll department, and also worked as a private cook and as a camp counselor in Michigan.

A longtime resident of Auburn, she lived in her cottage on her beloved Lake Auburn for more than 50 years. She had been a resident of the Auburn Nursing Home and d’Youville Pavilion.

She traveled to Finland, Cuba and Canada. She enjoyed dining out with friends and lobster was always on the top of the list. She loved the coast of Maine and its many beaches, also her friends and neighbors. She liked crosswords, card games and cooking.

She had been an air raider warden in World War II, a member of East Auburn Baptist Church, East Auburn Ladies Auxiliary, Stanton Bird Club and the Finnish-American Heritage Society.

She is survived by her “adopted grandson” and longtime caregiver, Robert Burnham of Auburn.

She was predeceased by her mother, father and brother.
