LEWISTON – Gas line replacement work will close the northbound lanes of Main Street at Sabattus Street overnight Wednesday.

The work won’t close the roads, but it will slow traffic. Southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane as northbound traffic is detoured into the easternmost southbound lane.

Crews are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Paving crews should begin repairing the street by 7 a.m. Thursday. The road will reopen to traffic soon after that, Labrie said.

Crews from Northern Utilities are replacing the company’s cast-iron pipes under Lewiston’s streets. The work was scheduled in the last couple of days, according to Josh Labrie, administrative aide for the Lewiston Public Works Department.
