JAY – A man who died at International Paper’s landfill Monday has been identified as 52-year-old Lee M. Haynes of Haines Corner Road in Livermore Falls.

Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said Tuesday that Haynes was found by two fellow workers who came to the site to check on him shortly before 11 a.m.

Haynes was an employee of E.L. Vining & Son of Farmington, which was doing work at the site. He was alone and standing on the frame of a 1996 Volvo tractor to grease fittings when the dump body came down on him, the chief said.

“It appears that employee error was a contributing factor to the accident,” White said.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
