LEWISTON – Robert L. “Bucky” Lamontagne, 47, of Auburn, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 9, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion after a courageous seven-year battle with a brain tumor.

He was born in Lewiston, April 15, 1958, the son of Albert and Jeannette (Gallant) Lamontagne. He was raised in the La Petit Canada neighborhood and attended St. Mary’s Parochial School, Jordan Junior High and Lewiston High School, Class of 1976.

He worked in the food service profession at Grant’s, Lum’s, Pizza Pan, Sam’s Bakery and for 22 years at Lepage Bakeries. Always proud of his efficiency and productivity. He was a conscientious worker who only reluctantly missed a day of work and quite adamantly continued to work after his initial diagnosis, until his retirement due to disability in 2002.

He was a longtime member of the Pastime Club and the Central Maine Football Forecasters Association. He applied his questioning and perceptive nature, a keen analytical mind, quick wit and mischievous sense of humor to many interests.

As an avid wide-ranging sports fan, he was especially loyal to and ever optimistic for his two favorite teams, the Red Sox and the Celtics. When he passed, the Sox were both defending a World Series Championship and in first place in the American League East; on both counts he was happy. He also closely followed college basketball and the three levels of football.

On local and national issues, like an astute columnist, he routinely vocalized strong opinions. He will be greatly missed by family and friends, for all of whom he was so caring.

He is survived by sisters, Gloria Burgess of Peru, Cecile Tobey of Norridgewock, Linda Twitchell of Lewiston and Diane O’Leary of Rumford; brothers, James of Lewiston, Joseph of Bowdoinham and Philip of Sabattus; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Laura Bolduc.
