“Staying the course” in Iraq is a pro-war stance, period. There is no peaceful solution in Iraq as long as American forces remain there.
We are the cause of the insurgency, therefore, the only way to end the war is to leave. Any politician, including Maine Sens. Snowe and Collins, who say differently (or continue to say nothing at all) are either misinformed or are misleading.
While I respect both moderate senators for their independence, I cannot accept their complacence on Iraq. A pro-war stance is not representative of Maine. It only takes a read of the opinion pages of our newspapers to understand the unpopularity of the war here in Maine.
The leaders of the Republican Party lied about the need for war in Iraq, and I believe that even the moderate voices of that party are to blame for not demanding the truth.
This is not a conservative or progressive issue, and Mainers should no longer accept silence as an answer.
