LEWISTON – Nearly 40 people showed up for a community supper on July 19 at the Knox Street Garden.

Lots to Gardens, a Lewiston-based urban-agriculture organization, worked with a downtown community planning group, known as the Visible Community, to organize the event, but it really was a whole community of people joining together that made it a success.

Some people arrived a little early to lend a hand in the community garden or plant fall crops in their garden plots. Some neighbors contributed lawn chairs. More people arrived and potluck food soon filled the tables, ranging from fresh garden peas to a Moroccan lamb dish.

One young boy, whose family has a garden plot at the Blake Street Garden, exclaimed, “This is the best evening ever!” upon seeing all the food.

Lots to Gardens sponsors gardening nights at 63 Knox St. from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday. For more information or other ways to get involved, contact Bridgette Bartlett at 753-6944 or check out the bulletin board in front of the Knox Street Garden for other announcements.
