PARIS – The annual family cookout and fun day was held at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris recently.

“The day is set aside each year to allow residents to invite their families here for a cookout and day of fun. Each resident is able to invite as many family members as they wish,” said Joe Cooney, Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee chairman, who co-sponsors the event with the home.

The committee works throughout the year to raise funds to do projects like that one.

“This year we served approximately 250 persons throughout the facility; it was a huge success,” said Matt Lessard, home administrator.

“The addition of games for the kids and entertainment following the cookout was enjoyed by all,” said Pat Paar, activities supervisor for the 90- bed facility.

“One of the favorite attractions of the day was the new soft serve ice cream machine with a smorgasbord of toppings. The weather was warm and the ice cream was the perfect solution,” stated Paar.

Families were seated at their choice of inside or outside tables.

Staff and members were on hand to assist residents and visitors with seating and serving.

At 2 p.m. residents and families attended a musical program presented by the Richard Felt Band.

Visitors Day was held on the same day from and tours of the facility were available to visitors from the community and families present for the festivities.
