Summer gala

HALLOWELL – Senior Spectrum, in connection with its annual Lifestyle Expo, will host an End of Summer Gala – An Evening of Dancing and Culinary Delights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the Cohen Community Center.

Music will be provided by the Al Corey Band and hors d’oeuvres will be served. Dress is coats and ties for men.

Tickets for the dance are $25 a person and proceeds will help fund Senior Spectrum, the nonprofit organization that provides options for independent living for older adults and their families.

Museum series

WATERVILLE – The Colby College Museum of Art will be the subject of a half-hour profile as part of the Maine Art Museum Trail series, an original production of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network. The program will be broadcast at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, on the television stations of MPBN.

The seventh and final installment in the series, the episode chronicles how, in a relatively short period of time, the Colby museum has grown to house several collections.

A back-to-back rebroadcast of each of the other six programs will follow the Colby episode. Other museums spotlighted were the Bates College Museum of Art, the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, the Ogunquit Museum of American Art, the Portland Museum of Art and the University of Maine Museum of Art in Bangor.

Farm conference

UNITY – The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association will host the second annual Grazing Conference of the Maine Grass Farmers Network on Saturday, Aug. 27, at Common Ground Education Center.

The conference will feature Temple Grandin, an internationally recognized authority and pioneer in the field of animal behavior. Grandin’s keynote presentation will focus on the grazing behavior of livestock. Ridge Shinn, well known regionally as a specialist in the production and marketing of grass-fed livestock, will be the second keynote presenter. Ridge will describe the European style of livestock marketing and offer a session on beef genetics for grazing.

SOUTH PORTLAND – The 78th annual Maine Safety and Health Conference will be held Sept. 27, 28 and 29 at the Marriott at Sable Oaks. The theme is “On the Road to Safety and Health” with a primary focus on “Roadway/Highway and Work Zone Safety.”

There will be 40-plus exhibitors, 36 workshops, an evening social and live auction, interactive exhibits and keynote speakers.

The evening social and live auction will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, with personal appearances from the Portland Pirates, the Maine Freeze and Flash the MDOT Road Model and more.
