ATLANTA (AP) – Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer and threw out two runners at the plate, and the Atlanta Braves used a seven-run third inning to beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 13-8 Sunday.

Francoeur drove in a fourth run with a bases-loaded walk, and Chipper Jones also had four RBIs with a homer and two doubles. Rookies Ryan Langerhans and Kelly Johnson added homers for the Braves.

Jones hit a two-run homer, his 10th, in the first inning. He added a run-scoring double in the third and another RBI double in the fifth.

Troy Glaus, Kelly Stinnett and Chris Snyder homered for Arizona. Luis Gonzalez and Royce Clayton each had three hits.

In only 28 games, Francoeur has nine homers and a team-leading eight assists – only two behind NL leaders Geoff Jenkins and Cliff Floyd.

Francoeur threw out Gonzalez in the first inning when Gonzalez tried to score from second on Tony Clark’s single to right. Francoeur added his third assist in two days in the fifth inning when Gonzalez doubled and again was thrown out as he tried to score on Shawn Green’s single.

Returning from the disabled list, Mike Hampton (5-2) settled down after a rough start to allow three runs and nine hits in five innings. All the runs and six of the hits came in the first two innings.

Arizona’s Javier Vazquez (9-12) recorded only six outs, allowing a career-high nine runs. He was pulled after facing seven batters in the third inning and giving up back-to-back homers to Francoeur and Langerhans.

Vazquez yielded six hits and seven runs and hit a batter in the disastrous inning.

Rafael Furcal led off the third with a double. Vazquez hit Marcus Giles with a pitch and Jones followed with a double that skipped past Gonzalez in left field for an error, allowing Giles to score behind Furcal.

Francoeur’s homer drove in Andruw Jones and Adam LaRoche for an 8-3 lead. Langerhans added his seventh homer, knocking Vazquez out of the game.

In three straight losses, Vazquez has given up a combined 19 runs – 16 earned. His ERA rose from 4.40 to 4.85 Sunday.

Arizona reliever Brian Bruney hit two batters and issued three walks – including bases-loaded passes to Langerhans and Brian McCann – for a 10-3 Atlanta lead.

Clark’s first-inning single drove in Clayton, who added a two-run single in the second.

Glaus greeted Braves reliever Horacio Ramirez with a sixth-inning homer, his 26th. Stinnett hit his fourth homer off Ramirez in the eighth and Snyder had a pinch-hit two-run shot in the ninth.

Johnson hit a pinch-hit homer, his ninth, off Lance Cormier in the sixth.

Notes: Clayton’s two-run single in the second was his 1,700th career hit. … Arizona pitchers hit three batters, including two by Bruney. … The Braves matched a season high with the seven-run inning. They also scored seven runs in an inning on July 30 against Pittsburgh.
