FARMINGTON – The Foothills Arts Center will offer a fun, new creative experience for children who have completed grades one to three. The new Foothills Summer Arts Day Camp for Children will take place from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, Aug. 15 to 19, at the Farmington Grange Hall in West Farmington.

The theme of the camp is “Mischievous Pixies and Magical Dragons.” Children will create art, listen to stories and poetry, sing, dance and develop a theatrical performance based on a poem they will write about their favorite mystical creature.

The instructor, Debbie Hiltz, has taught for many years in SAD 9 schools and for Foothills Summer Arts and Arts After School programs. She recently became special assistant to the Foothills Arts Center Director for education and community involvement. In her own art work, in addition to traditional portraiture, she enjoys combining unusual materials, such as photographs and drawings, to place real people in fantasy-like settings.

Assisting Hiltz will be her daughter, Johanna, who is an art major at the University of Maine in Orono and Sarah Levensalor, an artist who is majoring in arts administration at the University of Maine at Farmington.

The fee for the camp is $85. For information or to register, contact Anne Geller at the Foothills Arts Center, 778-0448, or info@foothillsarts.org.
