AUBURN – Authors of the town and city chapters of two local historical books will sign books today at the Book Burrow and Cafe on Center Street.
The book-signing party will focus on the upcoming Balloon Festival, with decorations, door prizes and a display of the aerial photograph of the 1998 festival included in the color section of the county book. The signings will take place from 2 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 8 p.m.
The Androscoggin Historical Society released two local history books last year to commemorate Androscoggin County’s 150 years.
“Alnobak: A Story of Indigenous People in Androscoggin County” was prepared by Canyon Wolf. The cover illustration was painted by Dean Cornwell in 1960 and can be seen in the lobby of the Five County Federal Credit Union in Lewiston. The color pages feature artifacts from the historical society collection. Information in the editorial section include a variety of sources about the Native American presence in the county and surrounding counties.
“Androscoggin County, Maine: A Pictorial Sesquicentennial History; 1854-2004” includes chapters prepared by people from each of the 13 towns and cities in the county. The color section, arranged in the manner of an art gallery, includes photos of the 1998 Balloon Festival.
Copies of both books are available at most rural town offices and at bookstores in Lewiston, Auburn and Livermore Falls. A 40-percent discount is available to town and city employees and volunteers.
