Given the buzz of negativity swarming around much of the professional sports world, it’s a relief from the noise to hear about the significant accomplishment of kids still playing a game.
On Sunday, Little Leaguers from Westbrook won their way into the Little League World Series by defeating a team from Rhode Island.
It’s the first time in 34 years a team from Maine has made the Little League World Series and just the third time since 1951.
When the sporting news is dominated with the likes of cheater Rafael Palmeiro and professional malcontent Terrell Owens, how great to see a group of 11- and 12-year-olds playing with great success just because they love the game.
For the team and its fans, just making it this far is a great accomplishment. For the state, we have a new team we can be proud of and cheer for.
