Class luncheon

RUMFORD – The men and women of the class of 1954 from Stephens High School will meet for luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at the River Valley Grill on Exchange Street.

Tryouts set

RUMFORD – Students who are interested in trying out for Mountain Valley Middle School football should meet at the middle school at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, when equipment will be issued.

In order to take part in the tryouts, students should turn in their student participation/parent approval forms and record of an up-to-date physical to the office by Friday, Aug. 19. For more information, call Coach Gary Dolloff at 369-9193.

Class meeting

RUMFORD – Members of the Stephens High School class of 1949 will meet at Teena’s at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, for the regular monthly luncheon.

Cheering sign-ups

RUMFORD – Sign-ups for AYL cheering will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Hosmer Field. Cost to join the league will be $20. An additional $20 fee will also be charged for a sweatshirt for the child to keep. Any questions will be answered at sign-ups.

SummerFest

PERU – Peru SummerFest will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10. New this year will be an Outhouse Race, where teams of three to six people build and navigate an “outhouse” on wheels. The wheels can be on a bike, trike, wagon or whatever. It must carry one person inside the outhouse and must go through the parade and race course. The event is for any age.

Also new are the Citizen of the Year Award and Masonic Child ID program. Other events will include a slogan contest open to grades kindergarten through eight to represent this years SummerFest and the Oxford County Bicentennial; a talent show, call Brenda at 562-8910 to register; parade; pancake breakfast; penny carnival; woodsmen’s and women’s competitions; food; and music.
