TURNER – Two holes-in-one were recorded by the same group during the recent Maine State Golf Association tourney held at Turner Highlands.

Michael Coyne of Sable Oaks scored an ace on the #10 hole, 135-yards, using a pitching wedge. Playing partners were Mike Lee, Jason Foster and Scott Jones.

Then on the #15 hole, 125-yards, Jones used a 9-iron to register a hole-in-one. He is also member of Sable Oaks.

Apple Valley

LEWISTON – Apple Valley Team Match Play Championship: Peter Wade and Maurice Sampson advanced to the finals by beating State Representative Robert Berube and Former Lewiston Mayor Larry Raymond. Sampson made a short putt on #18 to seal the victory. Steve Roop and George Hopkins also earned a berth in the finals by knocking off Joe Levasseur and Larry Samson. Finals are set for Sunday, August 21.

Governor’s tourney set

AUBURN- The third annual Governor’s Golf Tournament to benefit the March of Dimes is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Fox Ridge Golf Course. Governor John E. Baldacci will attempt to re-create last year’s moment in history when he nearly scored a hole-in-one for which he would have been awarded a Mercedes Benz automobile. His attempt landed 12-inches from the cup. The governor finished the tourney in first place. In addition to 18 holes of golf, entrants will be provided a cart, and dinner with the governor following the tourney. Reservations can be made by contacting the March of Dimes at 1-800-668-5678.

Pee Wee winners

PARIS – The 23rd annual 2005 Maine Open Pee Wee Championship Tournament was held recently at Paris Hill Country Club. Trophies were presented in four age groups, plus the overall male and female leaders.

The champions were Eric Hall with a gross score of 87 for 18 holes, and Caitlin Hanley with a 105.
