It is important to clarify a statement made in a Sun Journal news article Aug. 8 titled “Surgeon denies making false insurance claims.”

The story was about Dr. Joel Franck, a Lewiston neurosurgeon. The staff writer stated that Dr. Franck is “an independent surgeon who has worked at both Central Maine Medical Center and St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.” While that statement is factually correct, readers should know that Dr. Franck resigned from the Central Maine Medical Center medical staff in July 1993.

Dr. Franck’s name appears in the news media from time to time, and we want readers to understand that this physician has had no association with CMMC for over 12 years.
