Auburn – A program providing safe, supportive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender kids has a new home.

The Outright/L-A business office is now located at the Tri-County office at 79 Main St. Drop-in sessions are being held at the First Universalist Church, 169 Pleasant St.

Penny Sargent continues as program coordinator, a position she has held since 2000. Of the move, Sargent says, “We want to make sure that (these) young people and the adults who care about them know that Outright/Lewiston-Auburn is still very much alive and well. I encourage young people to call me and set up a time to come by to visit our new office.”

Founded in 1997 through the efforts of concerned young people and adults, Outright/L-A provides a range of services, including weekly drop-in sessions for people ages 22 and under, education and training for adults and one-on-one support for young people and their families. The program also has a youth speakers’ bureau and occasional social activities for young people.

Outright/Lewiston-Auburn, formerly a program of PreventionWorks Harm Reduction Services, is now affiliated with Tri-County Health Services of Western Maine Community Action.

Outright/L-A is supported through individual donations, the United Way of Androscoggin County, the Haymarket Fund and the Gill Foundation. For more information call 786-2717 or visit online at www.outrightla.org.
