LEWISTON – The U.S. Postal Service will offer a special commemorative cancellation for the 13th annual Great Falls Balloon Festival. It will be available at the USPS mobile unit set up at Railroad Park from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 19 to 21.

The pictorial cancellation features a patriotic hot air balloon resembling the head of the Statue of Liberty with the words “13th Annual Great Falls Balloon Festival Station, Lewiston, ME” on it. The cancellation is part of a three-day Twin Cities event full of hot air balloons, plus balloon rides for the public and lots of family activities.

The cancellation will be offered from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Kathy Keeney, customer service supervisor in the Lewiston Post Office, will be handling the special cancellation.

The new American Advances in Aviation stamps and related postal products will be on sale also, as will hot air balloon teddy bears and patriotic merchandise. Greetings from Maine, New England Patriots, Red Sox and other sports-related merchandise will also be available at the mobile unit.

The special cancellation will be available through the Lewiston Post Office by mail through Sept. 18. Requests by mail should include a self-addressed, stamped envelope inside a larger stamped envelope sent to 13th annual Great Falls Balloon Festival Station, c/o Postmaster, 49 Ash St., Lewiston, ME 04240-9998.
