AUGUSTA – A Second District Auxiliary Poppy Display took first place during the American Legion Department of Maine Convention recently.

The display was made by the district president at that time, Edith Lemieux of Lewiston and a member of New Auburn 153 Post, American Legion, Auxiliary. The display depicted the staircase to heaven, showing a statute of a soldier approaching the top where the Virgin Mary was waiting for him. Below was a flag-draped casket with a priest at the head of it, which was directly in front of the entrance to Flander’s Field. There were rows of small white wooden crosses and in between were red poppy rows.

Second District received a membership trophy and the president received a trophy for the most active auxiliary member for the year. She also received awards for projects she took part in. Second District received the most awards.
