PORTLAND – The Maine Mineralogical and Geological Society’s 22nd annual Gem and Mineral Show, snowed out in March, is back on track for the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18, at the Finley Gym, University of New England, 716 Stevens Ave.

Each year the society invites retail dealers who present diverse jewelry, cut gems, rough stone, fossils and mineral specimens. One of the society’s primary purposes is to interest the community, especially children, in minerals and geology.

The show offers children a mini-mine, mineral wheel of fortune, a hands-on mineral exhibit and coloring area as well as a silent auction, which moves hundreds of specimens intriguing both adults and kids.

The show also features a fluorescent mineral display, gold panning exhibit and other attractions. All attending qualify for hourly door prizes and the grand prize drawing at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The show will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. For more information, call Roberta Goldsmith at 459-7986.

Admission is $4 for adults; $3 for seniors and teens under 18; and free for children 12 and under.
