16-year-old killed in ATV accident

CORINNA (AP) – A 16-year-old Corinna boy was killed when the all-terrain vehicle he was operating struck a tree, authorities said.

Donald Davis III was traveling too fast and rounded a corner to find horses and riders in the roadway Wednesday evening, according to a state police report. While trying to avoid the animals, he locked the brakes and skidded into the tree, the report said.

The accident was reported at about 6:50 p.m., Maine Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland told the Kennebec Journal.

Davis was being mourned at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport, where he would have been a sophomore with the start of school.

A passenger on his ATV, Jordan Woodbury, 15, of East Newport, suffered a leg injury and was treated at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. They were traveling with two other ATVs that were not involved in the accident.
