FAYETTE – Wilma Lombardi, Fayette Central School’s new superintendent, said she plans to speak with every class on the first day of school to tell students her expectations of them.
The school has “three basic little rules,” she said Thursday – respect for others, learning should be fun and education should be equitable.
She feels education should be a family event and that the community needs to be involved. With that in mind, the school board will be working a little harder this year. Divided into subcommittees, members will be devising a plan for the school, she said.
“We believe in having fun in all that we do but that doesn’t mean we don’t take it seriously,” Lombardi said. “It’s all about the children.”
A brand new “state-of-the-art” school bus will begin making rounds this year and Lombardi hopes a new roof will be installed on the school.
Lombardi said she expects the school board to find a way to pay for the roof. Voters approved spending up to $75,000 for it at the annual town meeting in June, but all the bids have come in at over $80,000, she said. She may be able to negotiate with one of the bidders to delay payment of the costs above the approved $75,000 until the next fiscal year. In any event, she said she’s sure they will find a way to make it happen.
“If the kids need it, we will find a way to do it,” she said.
