AUGUSTA – Philip J. “Pee Wee” Metivier, 91, of Northern Avenue and formerly of Washington Street, died Aug. 17, at MaineGeneral Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in St. Damien, county de Belle Chasse, Quebec, Nov. 21, 1913, the son of Zenon Metivier and Felixine (Lessard) Metivier.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Hudson Pulp & Paper Co., which later became Statler Tissue Co., for a total of 44 years.
He was a communicant of St. Augustine Catholic Church, a life member of the Calumet Club, and a member of Abnaki Council 334 Knights of Columbus and Abnaki Assembly 346 4th degree Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Diana (Labonte) Metivier, of Augusta; one daughter, Gloria Charest and her husband, Michael, of Augusta; one sister, Antoinette Gagne of Lewiston; a sister-in-law, Alice Metivier of Rumford; two grandsons, Craig Charest and his wife, Jessica, and their children, Calub Charest and Joshua Nelson of Windsor, and Jamie Charest and his daughter, Kimberly, and her mother, Rebecca Marriner of Sidney; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Gertrude Cote, Alvenise Viger and Marie Gagne; and three brothers, Joseph, Maurice and Alcidas Metivier.
