LEWISTON – Romeo L. Raymond, 94, a resident of 15 First St., died Thursday, Aug. 18, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, after a short illness.

Born in Lewiston, May 12, 1911, a son of John B. and Rose A. Mercier Raymond, he attended local schools, including St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s, and graduated from St. Peter’s Academy and went to Jordan High School. He was also awarded the Dale Carnegie highest award for achievement.

He was a member of Holy Cross Parish.

After his schooling, he went to work in the shoe industry, coming through the ranks and became a stitching room foreman, working as such for Lumbard-Watson and L.K Reichert of Auburn, and the last 14 years at Holmes Stickney in Portland.

On Nov. 26, 1936, he married the former Marie Rose Dumont at the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul; she died June 13, 2004.

He loved to fish and made lots of fishing spinners for himself and friends. Every year he looked forward to that one week he would go fishing at East Pond in Somerset County, with his friend Bob Poussard.

His hobbies included gardening and growing odd things like peanuts, kohlrabi, yellow tomatoes, etc. He also enjoyed making things with wood such as bird houses, bird feeders and walking canes that he would give away.

He is survived by a son, Ronald Raymond Sr., and his wife, Bertha, of Winslow; 10 grandchildren, Ronald Jr., Beth (Raymond) Ferry, Lynn (Raymond) Cromley, Mark, Wendy, Brandy, Rose, Desiree, Steven and Jonn Raymond; and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jennifer Ferry, Jared Cromley and Cheyenne Raymond.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Rose Raymond; a sister, Juliette Taylor; and a brother, Laurent.
