BELGRADE – Fiddler and singer Molly Gawler of Belgrade will join dancers Karen Lee and John Cote of Lewiston in a performance of French Canadian jigging at the Buttermilk Hill Old-Time Music Show in Belgrade Sunday, Aug. 21.

Scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with an hour of children’ entertainment, the festivities will continue through sundown with a program featuring Celtic dance tunes by the Pineland Fiddlers youth orchestra, ballads by veteran folk singer Michael Cooney, bluegrass music by the Union River Band, vintage cowboy songs and yodeling by Skip Gorman, and the circus antics of juggler Randy “the Jester” Judkins and stilt walker Martin Steingesser. Also appearing from Lewiston-Auburn will be Somali singer Jamal Karama accompanied by fiddler Greg Boardman and bassist Jeff Taylor.

The final act of the day, set for 7 p.m., will be the Gawler Family Band, including Molly, her younger sisters Elsie and Edith and their parents, John and Ellen Gawler.

The festival will take place on the Gawler family farm on Buttermilk Hill on Guptill Road, located off Route 27 just south of Belgrade Lakes village. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for children and seniors; children under 5 admitted free. Attendees are encouraged to bring the whole family, except “those with tails,” as well as blankets or chairs for them to sit on.

“Umbrellas and rain hats are a good idea, too,” advises Molly Gawler, “since the show will go on rain or shine.”

“Of course, we expect that all the good fiddling, singing and dancing will keep the sun with us anyway,” she adds.

For more information, call the Gawlers at 495-2928.
