CAMDEN – Kenneth R. Conklin, 77, passed away Thursday, Aug. 18, at the Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill in Camden.

He was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Tarry Town, N.Y., a son of George and Grace Still Conklin. He graduated from high school and went on to enlist in the U.S. Navy serving in World War II from 1945 to 1947 as a seaman first class. He then went to work as a firefighter and a dispatcher for the White Plain Fire Department of New York.

He enjoyed fishing and was active in the Boy Scouts with his sons.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Master Mason at Mount Olivet Lodge in Washington. He was “Popeye” for the Funsters, a member of the Eastern Star in Washington, and a Master of the Evening Star Grange and Knox Pomona Grange.

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Marjorie Gambee Conklin, of Washington; a daughter, Marthanne Conklin, of Thomaston; two sons, Ronald Kenneth Conklin of Alaska and Robert George Conklin of Greene; a sister, Marilyn Phillips of New York; nieces, Kathy Conklin, Dianne Phillips and Nancy Phillips of New York; nephews, Paul Conklin, Douglas Phillips and Billy Phillips of New York; grandchildren, Elizabeth Rinehart of Waldoboro, Kenneth Rinehart of Rockland, Matthew Conklin and Joshua Conklin of Greene, Jesse Conklin and Ronald Conklin Jr. of Alaska, and Jessica Conklin of Pennsylvania; and great-grandchildren, Hannah Babcock and Jacob Rinehart of Waldoboro.

He was predeceased by his brother, Donald Conklin.
