LJ Neal of Greene, participated in this summer’s Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI), a program of musical study and performance that is recognized internationally as an outstanding educational experience for young artists.Neal has studied trumpet for five years. A junior at Leavitt Area High School, she is the daughter of John and Robin Neal.
Held in Lenox, Massachusetts, at Tanglewood – the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) – BUTI was established in 1966 by the Boston University College of Fine Arts in conjunction with the BSO. BUTI is the only program of its kind associated with one of the great symphony orchestras of the world. Its faculty members perform in some of the country’s most prestigious orchestras, including the BSO, the Atlanta Symphony, the Columbus Symphony, and the Houston Symphony.
Neal was among 338 students selected from auditions across the country and abroad to work with members of the BSO, BU faculty, and world-renowned visiting artists. While in residence at Tanglewood, these young instrumentalists, singers and composers keep a demanding schedule of rehearsals, practices, master classes, and concerts.
