LEWISTON – Robert J. Pomerleau, 76, of 4 Brault St., died Saturday, Aug. 20, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center after a short illness. His loving wife and family were by his side.

He was born in Lewiston Jan. 12, 1929, the son of Irenee and Alice (Desmarais) Pomerleau.

He attended St. Peter School and was a graduate of St. Dominic High School, class of 1948.

He was a parishoner of Saints Peter and Paul Basilica and Saints Peter and Paul Society, as well as a member of Post No. 22 American Legion.

He served with courage and dedication in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Prior to his retirement in 1990, he worked at the Enterprise Foundry in Lewiston for 29 years.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed traveling, especially along the Maine coast.

He is survived by his wife, the former Irene Bernard, of Lewiston, whom he married on Nov. 23, 1988; two daughters, Susan and her husband, Marshall Bryant, of Turner, and Marian and her husband, Roger Asselin, of Lewiston; a son, Garry and his wife, Rosemarie Pomerleau, of Auburn; three stepsons, Leo and his wife, Jill Bernard, of Casco, Paul and his wife, Dale Bernard, of Turner, Michael and his wife, Colleen Bernard, of Auburn; one stepdaughter, Claire and her husband, William Harris, of Portland; six grandchildren, Kim Asselin, Marsha and her husband, Matt Hamilton, Laurie Bryant, Jayson Bryant, Zackery Pomerleau and Precious Pomerleau; eight step grandchildren, Sydney Micheals, Todd Bernard, Bethanie Bernard, Brendon Bernard, Marie Kingsbury, Michael Harris, Michael Brown and Ryan Beaulieu; two great-grandchildren, Danielle and Kylie Asselin; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Therese (Racine) Pomerleau, on May 15, 1986, whom he had married on May 10, 1952; his parents; a sister, Laurette Therrien; and a brother-in-law, Gaeton Therrien.

Robert was a warm and caring person, and was loved by all who new him. He will be greatly missed. “If God is for us, who can be against us.” You are now in his loving care.
