LEWISTON – Norman K. Ingerson, 76, of Mower Avenue, Lewiston, died unexpectedly early Saturday morning, Aug. 20, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Bangor, Sept. 4, 1928, a son of Earle E. and Thelma M. (Sawyer) Ingerson. He was educated in Milo schools and graduated from Milo High School. He had been a resident of this community since 1969.

He was a veteran of the military, having served his country in all four branches of the service until his honorable discharge and retirement from the Army in 1988.

During the last several years that he worked, he was self-employed as an accountant until he retired in 1993. He volunteered for several years at The Great Falls Balloon Festival for the Lions’ Club and for quite some time he was a volunteer bookkeeper for the Lewiston-Auburn Head Start program.

In his early years, he was an avid stock car racer and one year he won the Tri-State Checkered Flag Racing Championship out in the Midwest, which included Nevada, New Mexico and Arizona. On other occasions he even raced against then-unknown drivers Richard Petty and Al Unser.

As a proud veteran, he was a major supporter of the Maine Army National Guard and for the past couple years had been mailing many care packages of all types to the 133rd from Auburn, deployed in Iraq. In 2005, he and his wife, Keiko, were presented with the Seven Seals Award from the ESGR, recognizing their outstanding support of the National Guard. But his greatest joy of all was the quality time he spent with his great-grandchildren, Akira and Jordan Caron.

He leaves his wife, the former Keiko Endo of Lewiston, whom he married April 3, 1958; two daughters, Miko Caron of Lewiston, and Mako O’Connell and her husband, Gary, also of Lewiston; a son, Earle E. Ingerson II and his wife, Nancy, of Lewiston; six grandchildren, Cpl. Steven Caron USMC, Sgt. Jacob Caron USMC, Chris Caron, Josh Caron, Patrick O’Connell and Tamiko O’Connell; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, David T. Ingerson and his wife, Margaret, of Utah; two sisters, Patricia M. Ingerson of Utah, and Dearle Flynn and husband, Wayne, of Milo; and a former son-in-law, David Caron of Lewiston.
