FREEPORT – Herbert O. Blake, 73, of New Gloucester, lost a long and courageous battle with cancer on Aug. 21 at the Hawthorne House in Freeport.

He was born Jan. 20, 1932, in New Gloucester, a son of Fred B. Blake and Muriel Stinchfield Blake. He attended New Gloucester schools, was a veteran of the Korean War and was a member of Masonic Lodge 12.

He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, fishing and volunteer work at the New Gloucester Fish Hatchery.

Survivors include a brother, Everett of New Gloucester; sisters, Colleen Anderson and husband, Dick, of Deltona, Fla., and Madeline Emerson of Windham; sons, Herbert L. and wife, Susan, of New Gloucester, Gary of Sabattus, and Clayton and wife, Kathy, of Alexander; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his sister, Hazel Files.
