FARMINGTON – Police are looking for a young, thin, white male with blond hair who robbed the Farmington Motel on Farmington Falls Road on Saturday afternoon, police said.
The man is believed to stand between 5 feet, 5 inches and 5 feet, 10 inches tall. He was wearing a hat, blue sweatshirt and jeans when he approached a motel employee about a room and then pulled out a hammer and demanded money, Farmington Police Lt. Jack Peck said Monday.
The man got away with an undisclosed amount of cash, Peck said.
No one was hurt, he said.
Farmington police officer Darin Gilbert responded to a report of a robbery in progress about 1:05 p.m Saturday, Peck said.
Gilbert had been at the police station, just down the road also known as Routes 2 and 27, and arrived about two minutes later, but the man had fled on foot, the lieutenant said.
Farmington police called in a tracking dog, Maine State Police and Franklin County Sheriff’s Department to help with the case.
The dog tracked the man to Stanwood Park Circle across from the former Strawberry Fields nursery, but it appears the dog lost the track at the pavement, Peck said.
Police assume there was a car parked there and he got into the vehicle and took off, Peck said.
Anyone with information is asked to phone Farmington police at 778-6311.
