TURNER – The Turner Center for the Arts, a new undertaking, will expand the exhibition possibilities for local artists and provide the public with a new venue in which to view art created by New England artists.

The grand opening and artist’s reception for the Autumn Open Juried Exhibit will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2. The exhibit will be on display until Nov. 18.

The center will exist for the benefit of the local and statewide community, to provide an accessible venue to explore and exhibit original visual art. The center is seeking to create a network for the development of artists from local students to professionals by providing exhibition space and future workshop offerings.

The exhibition space is located on the first two floors of the Leavitt Institute Building. The space is large and the Steering Committee for the Turner Center for the Arts encourages all artists to participate in the exhibits.

The center is calling all two dimensional visual artists to submit their work to the Autumn Open Juried Exhibit. The goal of the first public exhibit on Oct. 2 is to create an opportunity for the community-at-large to experience the visual arts, fostering a wider appreciation of diversity, shared connections and the unique creative potential within everyone.

Artists should deliver work for jurying from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 16, 17 and 18, to the Leavitt Institute Building, Turner Center Road (Route 117). The jury fee is $20 an artist with a limit of three works for consideration per artist. Jurying will be completed by Sept. 21.

Artwork must be original, completed within the past five years and be ready to hang. Mediums sought include oil, watercolor, pastel, acrylic, ink, charcoal and mixed media. The exhibit will accept paintings and drawings, no photography. The Center Committee is planning a separate photography exhibit in the near future. Work may or may not be for sale.

Application paperwork will be available at the center and may be completed when work is delivered. Applications can also be previewed at www.turnermaine.com. Questions may be submitted by e-mail to turnercenterart@yahoo.com.
