PORTLAND – The Portland Sea Dogs and UnumProvident have teamed up to establish a Portland Sea Dogs Hall Of Fame. The first two members of the Hall of Fame will be inducted on Friday, Aug. 26, prior to the Sea Dogs’ game against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.

Throughout the 2005 season, Sea Dogs fans have had the opportunity to vote for the inaugural members of the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame. To be eligible, players must have debuted with the team at least 10 years ago.

Each season, one player and one non-playing personality will be inducted into the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame.

On the inaugural ballot for players were Charles Johnson, Billy McMillon, Edgar Renteria and Jay Powell.

Each inductee announced Friday will be presented with a Hall of Fame plaque. A banner of each Hall of Fame member will be hung in the Hadlock Field concourse.

Caravan rolls to thank Black Bear fans

ORONO – Fans of University of Maine sports teams have a special treat coming. The mission of the Black Bear Caravan is to thank the members of “Black Bear Nation” from all across the state and region for their tremendous support of Maine Athletics. Black Bear Coaches, student-athletes and staff will visit the Ellsworth Hanaford supermarket this Saturday, Aug. 27 from 11:00 a.m until 1:30 p.m., then wrap up the summer caravan with a stop at Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Bangor Mall from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Black Bear Caravan is a free event open to all fans and offers an opportunity for University of Maine supporters to gather and meet the Black Bears in a local setting. Maine fans generously support athletic programs throughout the school year with both their donations to the Black Bear Club and their time. The Summer Caravan is designed as an informal way to be a part of the Maine experience and an opportunity to interact with key members of the Black Bear program.
