Andrea Lee Verrill, an alumna of Oxford Hills High School in South Paris who lives in Otisfield and Sittee River, Belize, recently graduated from Vermont College of Montpelier, Vt., with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and holistic therapy.
Vermont College, formerly of Norwich University, is now affiliated with Union Institute and University of Ohio.
She is an active licensed massage therapist, certified polarity practitioner, and teacher, Reiki practitioner and spa consultant receiving training including Headhunter Institute: spa tech.
Verrill is working for Migis Lodge of South Casco and is the owner of Dreamtree Therapeutics of Otisfield until later this summer when she will return to Belize to continue her healing arts practice in Sittee River, Belize.
She is the daughter of Donald W. and Elaine Doble-Verrill of Otisfield.
Chad Leighton, a student at the New England School of Communications at Husson College in Bangor has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Maine Public Relations Council.
The scholarship was open to students studying public relations, broadcasting, journalism, marketing or communalizations at any accredited Maine college or university. MPRC sent letters soliciting applications to financial-aid directors at Maine colleges and universities. Students in their junior year with at least a 3.0 average were encouraged to submit faculty recommendations and an essay.
Leighton, who will begin his senior year at Husson College this fall, was among the top 10 in his high school class at Winthrop High School in Winthrop. Leighton is majoring in radio/TV communications and has been working for several communications companies, in addition to maintaining 3.5 grade-point average.
Leighton will be presented with his scholarship at the MPRC annual meeting on Oct. 7.
Christina Merrill of Norway, has been inducted into the international honor society Sigma Beta Delta at Husson College. Sigma Beta Delta is an international honor society based on outstanding scholastic achievement in business, management and administration. She was one of seven students at Husson to receive this honor.
Merrill is a 2001 graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and is the daughter of Carol and Steve Merrill of Norway. She is also the granddaughter of Sonny and Bee Merrill of Oxford and Tekla LaFrance of South Paris.
Carly Ann Saxe, daughter of Matthew and Lisa Saxe of Columbia City, Ore., and granddaughter of Donald and Mildred Carver of Mexico, graduated on May 14 from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a degree in speech pathology and audiology.
She had been very active in school, community and church clubs during her undergraduate studies.
After spending the summer in Europe, she will pursue her master’s degree in speech and language pathology at Portland State University in Portland, Ore.
Jason Croft, 2001 graduate of Edward Little High School, received a B.A. in criminal justice on May 14 from the University of Maine, Presque Isle. He was a dean’s list student. He has accepted a job with the Windham Police Department. He is the son of Bill and Sandi Croft of Auburn, grandparents are Simone Dionne and Rosaire Bouchard and the late Maurice Dionne, Jeannine Croft and the late Rodney Croft.
Matthew C. Weiss, a Dartmouth College student in the class of 2006 from Auburn, has received the Rufus Choate Scholar award during the 2004-2005 year. Weiss is the son of Robert Weiss and Susan Weiss.
Rufus Choate Scholars have grade point averages are among the top five percent in the college for the academic year.
Dartmouth, the ninth oldest college in the nation, was founded in 1769. It has a total enrollment of 4,200 undergraduates and over 1,000 graduate students in engineering, business, and medicine.
Mathew M. Rodrigue, a history major at Temple University in Philadelphia, has earned a place on the dean’s list after completing his sophomore year with a grade point average of 3.5. This placement has earned him a permanent spot on the roster of students with distinguished performances at Temple. He has been inducted into The National Society of Collegiate Scholars for the 2004 spring semester, and is now a recognized member of The Phi Alpha Theta Society of The Alpha-Upsilon Chapter.
Rodrigue is a 2002 graduate of Lewiston High School and is the son of Michael and Doris Rodrigue of Lewiston.
Kimberly Nolin recently graduated from the University of Rhode Island where she received the degree of doctor of pharmacy. This summer, she began a year-long residency at Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vt.
James Nolin will begin his senior year this fall at Orono. This summer, he participated in a biology internship at the University of Pittsburgh.
They are the children of Dan and Chris Nolin and the grandchildren of Bert Nolin and Henry and Dot Whiting.
Nicole Rodrigue, daughter of Steve and Anna Rodrigue of Leeds has been named to the dean’s honor roll for the 2005 spring semester at the University of Wyoming. Nicole had attained a 3.8 cumulative average for both the fall and spring semesters. A 2003 graduate of Leavitt Area High School, Nicole is majoring in nursing and has returned to Maine, and transferred to the University of Maine, Orono where she will continue working toward her bachelor of science in nursing degree.
Serena Sarah Knapp, daughter of Sarah and Noel Bolduc of Mexico and granddaughter of Donald and Mildred Carver of Mexico, graduated on May 14, from Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in Standish with a bachelor of science degree in nursing.
She recently took the Maine State Board of Nursing exam and passed to become a registered nurse.
She now is working at Maine Medical Center in Portland, as an R.N. on a neuro, trauma and orthopedic unit.
Sharon Fishel of Gray, political science; Jennifer Knowles of New Portland, hotel and resort management; and Heather Nurmi of Otisfield, undeclared major, were named to the president’s list or dean’s list at Southern New Hampshire University for the spring 2005 semester.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Letourneau of Lewiston are proud to announce their son, Scot Letourneau, has graduated 2005 cum laude with a bachelor’s of science in environmental geology from Northeastern University in Boston. He is currently employed at Environmental Health and Engineering Inc. in Newton, Mass.
Dr. Tasha Sasseville, daughter of Gail and Sarto Sasseville of Lewiston, recently obtained her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Atlantic Veterinarian College of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Sasseville, a graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School and St. Anselm College, New Hampshire, has actively pursued her interest in small animals and primates.
Last summer, she completed an externship in Nicaragua where she focused on primates’ behavior in their natural environment.
She continues to pursue her small animal interest and is currently practicing in Skowhegan.
Derrick D. Tyler of Manchester recently graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology: with a bachelor of architecture degree.
