Summerfest meet

PERU – A final meeting for the Peru Summerfest will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, at Peru School. Volunteers are still needed. Anyone interested may attend the meeting or contact Lynda at 562-7639 or Yvonne at 562-7496. The Summerfest will be held on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9 and 10.

Hospital reunion

FARMINGTON – Fourteen former employees of the old Franklin County Memorial Hospital met Aug. 12 at Deer Crossing Apts. to reminisce about their years together.

For the past few years Vivian Kennedy has made sure the reunion was held annually, but the group relunctantly voted to discontinue the reunions due to low attendance and the fact that the new hospital has been in operation for over 30 years.

It was also voted to take what money has accumulated over the years and give it to the hospital auxiliary for the nurses scholarship fund. For many years they have given six scholarships each year to area students who are pursuing a nursing degree.

Country Sunday

DIXFIELD – Countryfolk Country Sunday will offer a lineup of special bands performing free from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Countryfolk Music Theater on Route 2 in East Dixfield.

The regular Sunday jam session will be held plus appearances by The Crosbys (Bing and Nancy) from Jay; Blais and Bronish (Bob Blais and Ed Bronish) from Weld; The Rocking Chair Ramblers (Robin and Terry Moore with Alan Lewis) from Livermore Falls and Fishers of Men, a gospel quartet from Rumford-Mexico.

Larry Bisbee, director of the project, said, “All these bands and musicians are volunteering their time to help raise money for the Countryfolk Youth Music Scholarships and $650 in scholarships has been awarded so far this summer. Countryfolk projects are free, but donations support the youth scholarships.”

There is also a free weekly Friday night jam session with dance to follow on Friday, Aug. 26. This week features the Rocking Chair Ramblers, and the following Friday night, Sept. 2, Blais and Bronish will play. The last Country Sunday Jam Session on Sept. 4 with a potluck meal, please bring your favorite dish to share, for the Labor Day finale, Jamboree in the Valley, a weekend of music to close out the season for the summer.

Society barn sale

DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Historical Society was rained out last Sunday, but will hold its huge barn sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 27. There will be plenty of trash and treasure items for everyone. Also, the museum house will be open with special displays to view. All proceeds and donations from the sale will benefit the Dixfield Historical Society.

Nascar nite

RUMFORD – The Rumford Elks Lodge will hold its annual Nascar Nite from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, for races at the Bristol race track. There will be refreshments, a 50/50 raffle and other raffle items. Members and guests welcome.
