FARMINGTON – Elwood A. Allen, 87, of Farmington, died early Tuesday evening, Aug. 23, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
He was born in Jay, July 9, 1918, a son of Arthur E. and Annie (Allen) Allen. He graduated from Livermore Falls High School and later the University of Maine at Orono, where he majored in education. He graduated from UMO in 1967 with his master’s degree in guidance.
He taught school in Flagstaff, Rangeley and Buckfield, and served as superintendent of schools in Strong, Phillips and Kingfield. He served as principal at Phillips High School and as a guidance counselor at Mt. Abram High School.
On Aug. 23, 1942, he married Blanche Vaughan.
His children and grandchildren were his most important accomplishments.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Blanche, of Farmington; a son, Vaughan and his wife, Nancy, of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Luralee Knapp and her husband, Maurice, of Farmington; daughter-in-law, Marsha, of Nashville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Christopher, Kimberly, Amanda, Andrew, Jennifer, Sarah and Benjamin.
He was predeceased by a son, Verne; and a brother, Earland “Zeke.”
