SOUTH PARIS – Keith L. Wing, 77, of High Street, West Paris, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris, where he had resided since February.

He was born in South Paris on May 28, 1928, the son of Donald and Annie (North) Wing. He attended schools in South Paris and Oxford.

He served his country as a merchant marine during World War II, and then in the National Guard in the 103rd infantry.

In 1947, he married the former June Edgerly. They had been married for more than 58 years.

He was a talented musician, playing with such bands as the Parisians and Down-Home Bluegrass, to mention just a few, as there were many more. He was a very gifted musician, winning numerous awards over the years.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9787 of South Paris, and the American Legion Post No. 72, also of South Paris. He was a past commander of the American Legion.

He was also involved with area fire departments during his earlier years, having been the fire chief of the Poland Fire Department and a member of the Mechanic Falls and Minot Fire Departments.

He was a machinist for most of his life. He worked on jet engines at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in Connecticut, and then became a supervisor. He also owned and operated Wing’s Small Engine Repair in Poland.

He is survived by three children, a daughter, Donna (Crockett) Wing and her husband, Howard, of Bethel, two sons, Jeff Wing of China, and Lester Wing and his fiance, Beth, of Oxford; a brother, Richard Wing and his wife, Jan, of Mechanic Falls; five grandchildren, Skip Dunning of Winthrop, Corey Libby of Everett, Wash., and Amber Brawley and Tammy Blake of Illinois; five great-grandchildren, Meagan, Tricia, and Brianne Dunning of Bowdoinham, and Bailey and Jillian of Vermont.
