WEST PARIS – After 22 years in business, Wendy and Jack Newmeyer have decided to try a few new ventures, the first of which is the Maine Balsam Fir Products Factory Store on their property at 16 Morse Hill Road.

The sweet smell of balsam fir permeates the little shop, which was built by Jack Newmeyer using wood cut from the land. Decorative, fir-stuffed pillows line the pine shelves.

Wendy Newmeyer said the pillows are currently her main focus, but she soon hopes to add a comfortable clothing line for women. She already has a dressing room built into the shop. She described her “Comfies” clothing as “wearing a hug.”

Newmeyer said she has not begun advertising the new factory store because she is waiting for the state to erect road signs directing people to the site, which is just a few miles away from the intersection of Routes 26 and 219 at Trap Corner.

The Newmeyers have sold $2 million worth of pillows from their factory, which is located next to the outlet store, over the past two decades. All the pillows have been created by hand to order, Wendy Newmeyer said.

One draw of the outlet shop may prove to be the “bargain box,” where some products will be sold for as little as $1.

The factory store will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
