FREEPORT – The Coasters, major contributors to the birth of rock ‘n’ roll, will perform Saturday, Aug. 27, as part of L.L. Bean’s Summer Concert Series. The group placed as many as 14 songs on the R&B charts, eight of which crossed over to the pop Top 40.
From 1957 to 1959, The Coasters had six singles on the charts in one of the most formidable runs of the rock ‘n’ roll era: “Searchin,” “Young Blood,” “Yakety Yak,” “Charlie Brown,” “Along Came Jones” and “Poison Ivy.”
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Discovery Park, just outside the L.L. Bean flagship store. The performance is free. Bring a lawn chair. For more information, go online to llbean.com/stores.
