HALLOWELL – The first thing Lee Kerr told the cast of Gaslight Theater’s “Dinner With Friends” is that they wouldn’t be on stage until two weeks before opening.

“The play takes place in their kitchens and bedrooms so we are going to rehearse in your kitchens and bedrooms, Kerr said at the initial read-through at his house. “This will make it real to you so that it is as real as possible to the audience.”

An interesting start to an interesting play.

Gaslight’s next production, “Dinner with Friends,” by David Margulies is the 2000 Pulitzer Prize winner for drama. Four veteran Gaslight Theater actors will be in this show: Peter Diplock, Dan Goodheart, Lucy Hunter Poland and Rachel Linton.

The play interjects everyone into a middle segment of the lives of two couples who are longtime friends. Audiences see the relationship both within and between the couples. The story presents an intimate view of friendship and marriage spanning a dozen years.

“Dinner With Friends” will be staged Sept. 1-3 and Sept. 8-10 at Hallowell City Hall Auditorium, 1 Winthrop St.

Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for seniors/students. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays and 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. For more information or reservations, call 626-3698; or go online to www.gaslighttheater.com.
