GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A Lewiston man will be among 238 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons to be elevated to the 33rd Degree in a special ceremony at Grand Rapids Tuesday, Aug. 30. The event will take place at the conclusion of the annual meeting of the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.
In attendance will be more than 2,000 33rd Degree Masons and their wives from the 15 northeastern and Midwestern states comprising the 240,000-member Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. This will mark the first time since 1997 that the Supreme Council has met in Grand Rapids.
Those who will be elevated this year were elected a year ago at the annual meeting in Milwaukee. The 33rd Degree is awarded for outstanding achievement within the fraternity or for contributions to others reflecting credit on Freemasonry.
Those to be honored this year from Maine are: C. Herbert Annis, 55 Ames Lane, Rockport, secretary, Scottish Rite Bodies of Rockland; James W. Burnham, 332 Gray Road, Gorham, Sales and Service Bank Equipment; Kenneth L. Richardson, 21 Allen Ave., Lewiston, electrical supervisor, Bath Iron Works/secretary, Scottish Rites Bodies of The Androscoggin.
