BATH – Brad Terry joined by Mateusz Kolakowski will appear in concert at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at The Chocolate Church Arts Center. The program for the evening will include two parts: a solo piano performance featuring compositions by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin & Scriabin; and a jazz duo.
Terry is not only a celebrated local clarinetist and jazz whistler, he also has an international following. His playing has evolved from influences starting with his friend and neighbor, Benny Goodman. Terry recorded numerous CDs, including the Livingroom Tapes with the legendary guitarist Lenny Breau.
Kolakowski was born in 1986 in Piekary, Slaskie, Poland. He has become an established jazz pianist across the United States and in Europe. Last summer, he attended the summer jazz program at Berklee College and was placed in the most advanced group. That fall, he participated in the Martial Solal Jazz piano competition in Paris. At age 16, he placed fifth in a competition involving 100 players worldwide, with an age cutoff of 35.
The summer of 2003 he placed fifth in the “Solo Piano Competition” at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and last summer, at 18 he was invited to be “House Pianist ” at Montreux.
