ORONO – Linda Consolante planted a pair of goals into the back of the net to lead Maine to a 4-0 shutout victory over Sacred Heart in women’s soccer action on Friday.

Consolante scored the season-opening goal for the Black Bears (1-0) at the 3:54 mark of the first half on an unassisted effort. Deep into the first half, Heather Hathorn found Laura Harper alone in the front of the net and relayed a pass to put Maine up by two at intermission.

Sacred Heart (0-1) struggled offensively throughout the contest, managing only eight shots on goal over 90 minutes of play. Hathorn put the icing on the cake in the 69th minute for Maine with an unassisted goal.
