JAY – Jay Development Corp. directors are scheduled to consider a proposal today for an Androscoggin Bank to be built south of McDonald’s Restaurant at the Jay Plaza.

Selectmen, acting in their capacity as corporation directors, authorized an option in June for a 78-year lease for a proposed new lot in the Community Development Park. The town owns the land in the subdivision where the plaza is located. The plaza includes Hannaford and McDonald’s; Bob and Sandy Bahre of Paris, trustees of Jay Realty Trust, lease the land from the town.

Bank officials are proposing a 3,360-square-foot, one-story building on a 40,000-square-foot lot, said Town Manager Ruth Marden on Friday.

Directors will review the floor plan, an outside sketch and placement of the building, she said.

The building also will have a community room for chamber of commerce meetings, Marden said. The plan shows a lot of green space and some benches, she said.

The Development Corp. meeting begins at 6 p.m. today in the Community Building.

After that meeting, selectmen are scheduled to hear a request from a resident to amend the traffic ordinance to limit the use of Jake Brakes on large trucks in the Chisholm residential area on Main Street, also known as Route 4.

A resident is also requesting that a one-way traffic ordinance amendment adopted in 1978 be enforced on Church Street. The amendment requires one-way traffic on the street from the corner of Horan Street down to Main Street from 7 a.m. to noon Sundays. St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church is on the street.

The board will also take up setting the tax rate, a warrant article discussion and a Franklin County Budget Committee vacancy.
