RUMFORD – Firefighters skilled in rescue work were called to the NewPage paper mill about 4:30 p.m. Sunday to help a person said to be caught up in some machinery.
Deputy fire Chief Ben Byam said that when crews manning the town’s rescue truck and its Engine 7 arrived at the mill the person had already been freed. Firefighters helped to ready the person for ambulance transport to Rumford Hospital, Byam said.
Byam said he couldn’t release additional details.
A NewPage official who could discuss the incident hadn’t returned a call seeking more information by Sunday evening.
