As a former selectman and Planning Board member of Poland, I am appalled at the recent decision by four selectmen to create a seven-member committee to review and redo the Comprehensive Plan.

In the old days, there were over 20 people, all with individual thoughts and insights as to how and where the town should grow. The plan was a good one and part is still currently used.

How can seven people be considered “comprehensive,” especially when those seven will be “chosen” by the selectmen? Sounds a bit contrived or controlling to me.

Why not open it to all those willing to get involved? We always asked for townspeople’s participation, and now we’re limiting the number.

Certainly a public hearing is not enough input, nor is presenting a plan to town meeting for a yes-or-no vote.

I feel this is a continuation of a few people trying to control the town. Selectmen should let the people speak and serve.
